FAQ: virtual store
1. Are these reference materials representative of actual patient specimens?
Reference materials are prepared from human blood, urine or hair, thus the matrix is identical to that of patient specimens. This biological matrix, obtained from unexposed volunteers, is spiked with the appropriate analyte.
2. Actual concentration (assigned or target value)
Reference material is first used in one of our External Quality Assessment Schemes. The assigned value is usually determinated using the median of the data reported by participants, after removing outliers.
3. Can these biological materials transmit disease?
Blood and urine are collected from healthy donors. Each of the donors is screened in order to exclude, if necessary, any specimens which may be infected by viruses of the types Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the virus associated with AIDS.
However, each sample should be handled as if capable of transmitting disease.
4. What sample volumes are provided for each of those reference materials?
For all our blood and serum reference materials, the sample volume provided is approximately 6 mL except for PCB/OC where the volume is approximately 5 mL. For hair reference material, the quantity is approximately 125 mg.
5. What is the shelf life of those reference materials?
All of our reference materials are stable for a period of 5 years.
6. Why is registration compulsory?
Registration ensures that we have the necessary information to correctly handle you order. We therefore ask you for a shipping and billing address. Once registered, you will be assigned a user name and password (which you can modify subsequently).
7. How will you use the information I submit?
Information is used only for purposes of filling out your order. Since we will invoice you subsequently, we reserve the right to verify you credit rating prior to shipment of your order.
8. Minimum order
You must order a minimum of two samples (either two vials of the same material or two different materials). You may of course order as many as you like.
9. How long will it take to receive my order?
If you are already registered, your order will be shipped within 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays). You will be sent an email confirmation. If you are not registered, add another 48 hours.
10. When will I be invoiced?
We invoice on a monthly basis. However you may visualize your invoice prior to finalizing your order.
11. Can I modify my contact information (e.g. address, phone number…)
